Fry Colts  5    St Nicholas  2

Sunday, 31 August 2003

The opening game of the new season between Fry Colts and St Nicholas produced an entertaining match played in a good competitive spirit. St. Nicholas took the lead after 10 minutes when Paul Lea flicked a Steve Bates overhead kick on into the path of Jamie Evans who shot low into the left-hand side. The lead was short lived when 5 minutes later Fry's equalised through Curtis Jack following a direct free kick on the left hand edge of the area. His excellent shot sailed into the top right hand corner of the net. Midway through the first half Fry's took the lead from a right wing cross which Jamie Bryant brilliantly netted with an overhead kick. The second half started brightly for St. Nicholas when they levelled the score after 49 minutes through a powerful header from Dan Tucker following a free kick on the left-hand side from Lee Gooderson. Again Fry's stormed back and won the game with 3 goals in 8 minutes. The first after 51 minutes when loose defending by St. Nicholas let in Ricky Anstey to score low into the left hand corner. 6 minutes later the St. Nicholas keeper fumbled the ball from a shot on the edge of the area which Ricky Anstey followed up to score his second goal. 2 minutes later the scoring was completed by Jack Curtis who scored his second of the game when his 25 yard looping shot just eluded the St. Nicholas keeper who despite getting a hand to the ball could not stop it finding the net.
